Athleisure for spring
I am on the fence about how much the new-ish athleisure trend is really for me, but I will say that I love some aspects of it.
For starters, there’s the whole sneakers things. Love them! Recently I bought a pair and wore them literally every day on a recent trip where I did a whole lot of walking. I was comfortable AND looked cute at the same time! Can’t beat that.
Maybe sneakers have caught my eye because my way-hipper-than-I-am teenage daughter wears sneakers 24/7 and so has a nice little wardrobe of them.
And this may be the reason I’ve been intrigued by the athleisure trend. The sneakers plus the whole idea of a pared-down silhouette and the whole modern feeling it has. I love that! (My usual go-to look tends more toward bohemian, detailed, and maximalist, so this is, I guess, a natural reaction to that.)
I’m also big on bomber jackets for transitional weather.
Here are some ways to style your athleisure pieces:
- Wear a silky track pant, knit top, and Adidas.
Top a pencil skirt or wide, flowy pants and kitten heels, sneakers, or sleek booties with a bomber jacket.
Pair a varsity sweater with knee-length shorts and a sneaker loafer.
Pair sneakers with a knee-length skirt and boat-neck stripe top.
Add a feminine floral-print baseball jacket to slim pants.
And make sure you keep accessories clean and spare.
