Camo tote, J. Crew, $8
Recently I shlepped my lunch to a meeting in a very basic canvas tote bag. It is super-simple but I love it because I love everything camouflage. (I can’t help it! I’m a total peacenik but I love camouflage.) And it packs quite a punch for just $8.
This reminded me of something I observe all the time: people carrying their stuff in flimsy giveaway tote bags from the Association of International Conference Goers or whatever or, worse, plastic bags from the grocery store. But there is no cone of invisibility around that bag, and that’s what I think people don’t realize.
Consider this an opportunity to bring an extra dollop of style to your outfit, and perhaps even a soupçon of irony.

These are just a tiny sample of what’s available. There are Israeli artists’ tote bags, mudcloth totes, kantha cloth totes, vintage upholstery cloth totes — pretty much anything you can think of.
I can’t wait to see what I stumble across next.
