For those who care, Mrs. Obama’s red dress was custom-made for her by Jason Wu, who also designed her 2009 Inaugural Ball gown. (He was then a relative unknown.) Fashiony insiders say they are shocked she chose the same designer to make this 2nd gown.
The red is eye-popping, especially on this stage, with the presidential seal and the rest of the setting. I imagine she’d go for dark blue if there were a 3rd Obama Inauguration, in fact (making for white, then red, then blue). I don’t love this color on her — I don’t think it does much for her warm skin tone. I think (and others have written) that it is a little too voluminous on her.
That said, it shows off her toned upper body to perfection — not just her arms but also her shoulders and neck.
I’m looking forward to four more years of Michelle-watching, how about you? Leave a comment or head over to Facebook and tell me what you thought of all the Inaugural styles; I’d love to hear what you think!
