I’m always looking for fresh inspiration — whether it’s about personal style, interior design, or ideas about how to live a happy life. A recent trip to New York City provided me with tons of inspiration, from just walking around and observing people to shopping to visiting the High Line, where each view and design element was more fabulous than the next.
Of course books also offer a ton of inspiration. Here are a few of the new books that have found their way onto my nightstand recently.
I love Amanda Brooks. I loved her first book, I Love Your Style, and this one looks great, too. I can’t wait to dive in.
I’ve been devouring the images and ideas in this book, which I just got. I’ve been a fan of the blog for several years, so it’s an especial treat to see it all come together.
Summer is when my kids go away for a month and when I spend a lot of time throwing crap out. That’s one of the premises behind Apartment Therapy’s wildly popular blog, much of which is collected in Apartment Therapy’s Big Book of Cool Small Spaces.
And of course there are the novels and memoirs. Can’t carry those coffee-table books on the plane, after all.
I’ve started reading this book by a well-known editor and writer (her first book was about Michelle Obama’s style) , and it’s entertaining and well written. Definitely looking forward to reading this memoir of the author’s time in Paris breaking into the fashion publishing business in the late 80s.
Finally, the novel I’m reading now, set at the beginning of the Depression, about a Jewish family and what happens when one of five siblings goes missing. It’s a little bit of style inspiration in that it evokes a specific time and place, and I love that.
I also plan to read my daughter’s summer reading assignment once she’s done with it. It looks quirky and interesting.
